ION Industries System
The ION Group is a global financial tech company, based in London. It has verticals within Treasury, Markets, Analytics, Core Banking, Credit Information, and Commodities. I was asked to create a system for ION’s 8 core industries within it’s Commodities vertical. ION’s eight industries: Certificates, Agriculture, Strategic Planning and Procurement, Crude Oil, Power and Renewables, Natural Gas, Liquified Natural Gas, and Metals and Mining.
System
1. A logo, that would encompass the entire system 2. A color pallete that would represent each industry 3. An illustration that would represent each industry 4. How those assets would apply to: Brochures, Social Media Tiles, Web Pages, Carousels, and more.
Color
First, I took a look at ION’s color palette. Keeping in mind that the Commodities vertical color is Orange, I used that as a starting point. Then I went through each industry and decided on a basic color it best matched with. Then, I used our exisiting color palelte to match those colors. An example of this is the slate grey used for ‘Crude Oil’. Oil is black, but I wanted to soften the color a bit to keep it inline with the bright colors used throughout.
Logo
The logo I created is referred to as the ‘ION Industry Icon’ or in a familiar sense, the ‘astrix’. It has 8 prongs, each representing an industry. I chose this format because of the ‘overlapping’ elements. Some of the industries cross over and I wanted to show that within the logo itself. Below you can see the ‘Blank’ version, the logo with standard grey coloring, the full color, and the overlapping version.
Illustrations
Power and Renewables is shown as a ‘lightning bolt’ to represent power. Agriculture is ‘corn/flower’ to show represent grain. Refined Products and Biofuels is shown as ‘an oill barrel’ to represent how it’s shipped/contained. Crude Oil is shown as a ‘drop’ to represent oil. Environmental Certificates is shown as ‘paper’ to represent a certificate. Natural Gas and Liquids is shown as ‘fire’ to represent it’s nature. Natural Gas and LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) is shown as a ‘pipe’ to represent how it’s distributed. Metals and Mining is shown as an ‘anvil’ to represent how metals are forged.
